Pranab Mukherjee Takes Oath as India's 13th President

11: 45am: The ceremony ends with National Anthem in Parliament's Central Hall.  



Highlights of President Pranab Mukherjee's acceptance speech
  •     All for knowledge, knowledge for all
  •     Hunger is the biggest humiliation.
  •     Peace is the first ingredient of prosperity.
  •     For our development to be real, the poorest of our land must feel they are part of the rising India.
  •     I will strive to preserve, protect and defend our constitution.
  •     War against terorirsm is the foe and it s a world war because it can raise its head anywhere in the world India has been at frontline of this war long before others recognized its consequences.
  •     Corruption is an evil that can depress a nation's mood and sap its progress...we cannot allow our progress to be hijacked
  •     I envisage an India where every revolution is green...where knowledge becomes wisdom...where India becomes model of modernity
  •     No greater reward for a public servant than to be elected the first citizen of our republic...thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Jai Hind.

11: 30 am: The oath of office for the President of India is as follows:

I, (Pranab Mukherjee), do swear in the name of God (or solemnly affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President (or discharge the functions of the President) of the Republic of India, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law, and that I will devote myself to the service and well-being of the people of Republic of India.
